Functional Requirement for a safety management System
Every company should develop,
implement and maintain a safety management system (SMS) which includes the followings:

• A safety and environmental
policy
• Instruction and procedure to
ensure safe operation of ship & protection of the environment in compliance
with relevant international and flag state legislation.
• Defined level of authorities and
lines of communication between and amongst shore and shipboard personnel.
• Procedure for reporting accident
and non-conformities with the provision of this code.
• Procedure to prepare for and to
respond to any emergency situation.
• Procedure for internal audits and
management reviews.
