What is Ship Security Plan ?

 Ship Security Plan 

The Ship Security Plan is developed to ensure the application of measures on board the ship designed to protect persons on board, cargo,cargo transport units, ship's stores or the ship from the risks of a security incident .The plan must at least following :

  1. Measures designed to prevent unauthorised weapons ,dangerous substances and devices intended for use against person, ships or ports from being taken onboard.
  2. Duties and procedures in security level 1,2 and 3.
  3. Identification of the restricted area.
  4. Measure for prevention of unauthorised access.
  5. Procedures for responding to security threats or breaches of security.
  6. Procedures for auditing the security activities, and for ensuring the inspection, testing, calibration, and maintenance of any security equipment provide on board.
  7. Procedure for training, drills and exercises associated with the plan.
  8. Procedure for interfacing with port facility security activities.
  9. Procedures for the periodic review of the plan and for updating.
  10. Procedures to ensure the inspection,testing & maintenance of all security equipment.
  11. Procedures, instructions and guidance on the use of the ship security alert system, including the testing, activation, deactivation and resetting and to limit false alert.
  12. Details of CSO, assistant CSO, PFSO.

Records of the following addressed in the Ship Security Plan will need to be kept on board:

  1. Training, drills and exercises
  2. Security threats and security incidents
  3. Breaches of Security
  4. Changes in Security level
  5. Internal audits and reviews of security activities
  6. Implementation of any amendments to the plan
  7. Communication relating to the direct security of the ship such as specific threats to the ship or to port facilities
  8. Periodic reviews of the ship security assessment and the ship security plan.
